The ACC Public Utilities Department's Water Treatment Section ensures that every day, millions of gallons of clean, safe water reach homes, businesses, and organizations throughout the County. The staff includes highly trained maintenance mechanics, lab technicians, operators and administrative support who keep the treatment system running smoothly 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Your drinking water comes from three sources: Bear Creek Reservoir, the North Oconee River, and the Middle Oconee River. From these sources, the raw water travels to the J.G. Beacham Water Treatment Plant and goes through a carefully monitored, reliable treatment process before we deliver it to you. The J. G. Beacham Plant is currently being upgraded to meet future demands, to ensure performance reliability, and to comply with stricter, impending drinking water regulations. The capacity of the plant will be increased from its existing capacity of 28 million gallons a day (mgd) to 36 mgd. The Plant's expanded, multiple-barrier water treatment process will produce even higher quality water to meet more stringent water standards scheduled to take effect in the next few years.
